Black Mishima Donabe

A heat-retentive ceramic pot that enhances flavors, resists sticking, and cleans easily—ideal for ramen, oven dishes, and shared meals.

A Tradition Shared Around the Table

For generations, donabe has been at the center of Japanese dining.

Families and friends gather around a single pot, sharing food, conversation, and time together. More than a cooking vessel, a donabe represents a tradition of slowing down and enjoying meals as a shared experience.

The Black Mishima Donabe brings this timeless part of Japanese culture into modern homes.

The Flavor Only a Donabe Can Create

Ceramic retains heat gently and evenly, allowing ingredients to cook slowly and develop deeper flavor.

Soups become richer, vegetables stay tender, and every ingredient absorbs the essence of the meal.

Even after cooking, the donabe continues to hold warmth, keeping dishes at the perfect temperature for everyone at the table.

Why the Black Mishima Donabe Stands Apart

1. Brings out the natural flavors of your ingredients

The magic of a donabe lies in its ability to gently transfer heat all the way to the core of your ingredients.

Whether simmering stews or cooking rice, it draws out the full natural sweetness and flavor of the food.

2. Exceptional Heat Retention: Keeps the warmth in

Made from thick ceramic, the donabe holds heat exceptionally well once warmed, keeping your food hot for a long time.

Even when dining with family or friends, it maintains the perfect temperature until the very last bite.

3. From stove to table: Cook and serve in the same pot!

Unlike metal pots, the donabe retains heat exceptionally well, keeping its warmth even after the heat is turned off.

You can bring it straight to the table after cooking, where the residual heat keeps stews, soups, and other dishes warm and delicious as you enjoy your meal.

Crafted in Japan, Preserving Tradition for the Future

Made in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, a region renowned for its ceramic craftsmanship.

Each donabe is carefully produced using traditional techniques refined over generations.

As the only JIS-certified donabe manufacturer in Japan, every piece is crafted under strict quality standards to ensure exceptional durability and consistency.

By developing an innovative silica-based material, the company has enhanced heat resistance while preserving the essence of traditional donabe craftsmanship.

FAQ

Can this donabe be used on induction (IH) cooktops?

This specific model is designed for open flames (gas stoves), ovens, and microwaves. It is not compatible with induction (IH) cooktops unless an IH induction plate is used. Its heat-resistant clay is optimized for direct fire.

Is it dishwasher safe?

We strongly recommend hand washing with mild soap and drying thoroughly. Using a dishwasher may cause the porous clay to absorb detergent or lead to accidental chipping due to vibrations.

What makes this donabe different from ceramic-coated metal pots?

Unlike mass-produced pots with a ceramic coating, this is a genuine "Banko-yaki" earthenware fired at high temperatures. While coatings can peel over time, this firing technique provides inherent heat resistance and far-infrared effects that cook food to the core, offering superior flavor and durability.

I see tiny cracks on the surface. Is the pot broken?

These tiny surface cracks, called "Kanyu," are a natural characteristic of glazed earthenware. They occur due to the difference in contraction between the clay and glaze and do not affect the pot's structural integrity.

Do I need to "season" the pot before the first use?

Yes, we recommend a process called "Medome" (Initial Seasoning). Much like seasoning a cast-iron skillet, you should boil water with flour, cornstarch, or rice to seal the natural pores of the clay. This simple step prevents leaks, avoids staining, and makes your donabe more durable for long-term use.
