BYAKUDAN Beer Tumbler brings together two of Japan’s most celebrated craft traditions: the advanced metal polishing techniques of Tsubame-Sanjo and the centuries-old Byakudan urushi lacquer craftsmanship of Yamanaka.
Designed to elevate everything from an evening beer to your morning coffee, this double-wall stainless steel tumbler combines precise functionality with the warmth and character of natural Japanese lacquer.
Inside the tumbler, two different polishing techniques work together to enhance the drinking experience. The upper section and rim are finished with a smooth mirror polish, creating an exceptionally comfortable mouthfeel, while the lower section features a precisely engraved spiral polish that generates ultra-fine bubbles—helping beer develop and maintain a delicate, creamy foam.
Thanks to the high-level polishing technology of Tsubame-Sanjo, the rim is shaved to an extreme thinness. The result is a light, almost seamless sensation on the lips that allows the crispness and flavor of your drink to pass naturally into the mouth.
The exterior is finished using the traditional Byakudan-nuri lacquer technique. Transparent natural urushi is carefully layered over flowing gold leaf, creating a deep, radiant metallic appearance while giving the surface a surprisingly soft, warm touch more reminiscent of wood than metal.
Unlike a static finish, urushi continues to mature over time. As the tumbler is used, the deep lacquer gradually reveals more of the gold leaf beneath, developing a warmer brilliance and a unique character that belongs to each individual piece.
An advanced hollow double-wall structure helps preserve the temperature of your drink by reducing the influence of outside air. Cold beverages stay chilled for longer, while hot drinks remain comfortable to hold without the need for a sleeve or handle.
Toward the rim, the double-wall construction transitions into a single-layer structure, combining excellent heat and cold retention with the delicate mouthfeel of a fine wine glass.
The double-wall stainless steel structure also prevents condensation from forming on the outside of the tumbler, making it comfortable to use beside your laptop, books, or important documents without worrying about dripping water.
